Akamegashiwa
Mallotus japonicus


A medium sized deciduous tree with yellowish brown fissured bark.

Leaves are alternate, rounded obovate, acuminate at the apex, shallowly 3-lobed.

Petioles are long and reddish.

This species is the common tree of the secondary forest in the warm temperate and subtropical zone.

The wood is used for alcove posts, boxes, trays, clogs. The leaves have been used for wrapping foods.

Distribution ; Honsshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Korea, Ryukyu, Formosa, China
