Leaves are clustered 5 togather at the end of shoots, elliptic, acute at the both ends, entire, margined with setae.

Bright rose pink flowers open in April to May before the leaves.

This tree is found in rather deep rocky mountains of the cool temperate zone on the Pacific side of Japan.

It is planted for garden trees.
