Hannoki
Alnus japonica


A deciduous tree up to 20 m with dark purplish or greyish brown bark.

Leaves are alternate, elliptical to oblong-lanceolate, deep green and lusterless above.

This species favors at open swampyplaces in the cool temperate zone.

The wood is used for furniture, turneries, utensils, gun-powder charcoal.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Korea, Manchuria, Ussuri
