A deciduous shrub with pale yellowish grey bark.

Leaves are opposite, lanceolate, acuminate at the apex, minutely serrate, vivid green above, pale green and glabrous beneath.

White flowers open in May to June on new shoots.

It grows in low mountains preferring wetty rocks in the warm to cool temperate zone.

It is used for cut flowers and garden trees.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu
