A large deciduous tree with greyish white bark.

Leaves are alternate, ovate, abruptly acute at the apex, cordate at the base.

Petioles are long with glands at the top and the base.

In autumn fruits ripen red in hanging bunches like grapes in October to November.

The wood is used for clogs. It is planted for garden trees.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu, South Korea, China
