Kibushi
Stachyurus praecox


A deciduous shrub with purplish brown and smooth bark.

Leaves are alternate, elliptic ovate, long acuminate at the apex.

Pale yellow flowers open in March to April before leaves.

It is widely distributed in the warm to the cool temperate zone.

The wood is used for toothpicks. The fruits are rich in tannin, so people use them for dyeing.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, China
