Mamegumi
Elaeagnus montana


A deciduous shrub with dark brown branchlets. New shoots are densely covered with bright brown scales.

Leaves are alternate, chartaceous, entire but minutely undulate on the margin, silvery with dense scales beneath.

Petioles are 5-10 mm long with reddish scales.

White flowers open in the lower axils of new shoots in June to July after leaves. Fruits ripen red in August to september.

It grows in the cool temperate mountainous areas.

The wood is used for sticks, seals, combs.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu
