A deciduos small tree with greyish brown bark.

Leaves are decussately opposite, pentagonal, palmately 5-lobed, incisely and doubly serrate.

Petioles are 2-5 cm long and reddish.

This tree is commonly found on the ridges in the subalpine to the upper part of the cool temperate zone.

It is planted for garden trees.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Southern Kuriles
