Leaves are alternate, clustered at the rising end of branch.

In May to June many small white flowers open.

It is widely found in the warm to cool temperate zone and also in the subfriged zone.

The wood is used for utensils, sculptures, turneries, Kokeshi (a wooden doll).

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Southern Kuriles, Formosa. Korea, China
