A deciduous shrub with greyish brown bark. The bark is dispersed with small brown lenticles.

Leaves are alternate, thick membranous, broadly ovate, entire on the margin cordate at the base.

Petioles are slender about 9 cm long.

Dark violet flowers open in October to December.

Drupes ripening in the next spring.

This species are sporadically found in the upper part of the warm temperate zone.

It is planted for garden tree.
