A large evergreen tree with reddish brown bark.

Leaves are scale-like, obtuse at the apex with deltoid white stomate and are gigger than Hinoki.

This species is growing on rockey ridges and around swamp. It is endemic to the cool temperate or subfrigid zone.

It is also called Kurobe.

The wood is used for ceilings, furnitures, clogs.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku
