Ooshimazakura
Prunus Lannesiana var. speciosa


A large deciduous tree purplish black bark.

Leaves are alternate, acuminate at the apex, with aristate and partly double serration, deep green above, pale green beneath, lustrous on both side.

Petioles are nearly green with a pair of glands near the top.

Flowers open in March to April with leaves.

It is indigenous to Izu Islands.

The wood is used for buildings, furnitures, utensils. The leaves pickled with salt are prized for wrapping a rice cake.
