Leaves are alternate, oddly pinnate compound.

Nuts are not edible.

This tree is common along streams in the cool temoperate zone, associates with Aesculus turbinata, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, Fraxinus platypoda, Acer spp..

The wood is used for match-sticks, clog, shaving.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu
