Leaves are alternate, crenate, wavy on the margin, with 7-11 pair of lateral veins.

This species is representing the cool temperate forests and typical tolerant tree.

The wood is used for furnitures, veneer, paper pulp.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu
