Leaves are alternate, subduplicately serrate on the margin.

It grows on upper cool temperate zone or subalpine coniferous forests.

The wood is used for furnitures, sculptures, paper pulp, and bark for fuels.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Saghalien, Kuriles, Korea, Kamchatka
