Egonoki
Styrax japonica


A deciduous small tree with dark purplish brown fissured bark.

Leaves are alternate, ovate, remotely crenate on the margin.

White drooping flowers open in May to June.

This tree is commonly found at the sunny and rather wettish places in the warm to cool temperate zone.

The wood is used for toys, utensils, carvings, handles of umbrella.

Distribution ; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu, Korea, China
