Gardenia jasminoides forma grandiflora


An evergreen shrub with dark greenish brown smooth bark.

Leaves are opposite or ternate, broadly oblanceolateacute with an obtuse tip, entire and somewhat undulate on the margin, thinly coriaceous, dark green and lustrous above, paler and with axillary tufts of white hairs beneath.

White fragrant flowers open in June to July. Berries ripen reddish yellow in October to November.

This tree is found on sunny opened places near the coast in the warm temperate zone to the subtropical zone.

The wood is used for seals. The fruits are used for yellow dyeing and medicine. It is planted for hedges and garden trees.
