Leaves are alternate, entire, obovate-oblong. The shoots have a fragrant odor.

This species is very common on mountains range in the cool or warm temperate zone.

The wood is used for teethpicks. The oil from the leaves is used for perfumes.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, China
