A large evergreen tree with dark brown fissured bark.

Leaves are alternate, entire, distinctly 3- nerved, lustrous green above, with fragrance.

It has been widely cultivated since old days for obtaining camphor.

The wood is used for buildings, funitures, instruments, sculptures.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Formosa, China
