Camellia japonica


A medium sized evergreen tree greyish white smooth bark.

Leaves are alternate, thick coriaceous, lustrous deep green above.

Solitary big flowers open in February to April on the top of shoots.

This species is a representative tree of the warm temperate forests. Many garden trees are developed.

The wood is very hard and used for utensils, fuels.

Distribution ; Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, South Korea, China
